 2018 Preview 


       Pell City completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region seven, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Pell City's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Shades Valley by a score of 34-7.

       Since 2010, Pell City has gone a combined 45-41. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Pell City has managed to compile a record of 114-140. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 6A and 237th in the AHSAA.




       The Panthers will be under the direction of new head football coach Wayne Lee as they enter the 2018 season.

       Coach Lee's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 52-56 (48.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Lee's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship.

       The Pell City Panthers will play in Class 6A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 6A but move from region seven over to region six. The Panthers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 82-39 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 6A and 4th in the AHSAA. Pell City will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       Region six will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Panthers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region six this season.

      

       The Panthers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Fort Payne on Friday, August 24 at Pete Rich-Alumni Stadium. Last year the Fort Payne Wildcats finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 6A region seven. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Homewood by a score of 28-21.

       Pell City and Fort Payne have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 3-9-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Fort Payne winning by a score of 19-14.

       Pell City returns 6A All-State  linebacker Brett Staples. He was named to the first team last season.
